What does a Jimmie Johnson Hobby Grade box look like?

More comparisions of the 1-6th scale "Hobby Grade" Nascar Rc cars,  "First Edition Base Versions" and "Second Edition Base Versions."

Heres the Jimmie Johnson 6th scale rc car. Again, front and back panels of the boxes are different. "Hobby Grade" will be printed on the lower left corner of the box along with the "Hobby Grade" features. Those "Hobby Grade" features are also printed on the box top on the left hand side and on the bottom front edge of the box. Look at the bottom edge of this particular HG Jeff Gordon has the "Added Features" sticker. See the printed "burning tires" ? Also note that the remote control transmitters are in a different location in the box. Transmitters on Second Edition Base Versions (full plastic chassis) are in the same place as "Hobby Grades". On First Edition Base Versions, (foam padded chassis) they are infront of the car. A dead giveaway for ANY BASE VERSION is this lack of "Hobby Grade" on the lower left corners and 100 yard range on the transmitter.
"Hobby Grade" range is 50 yards.

2 NEW Hobby Grade boxes!!! This is a 2nd Edition Jimmie Johnson # 48 "Hobby Grade" Rc car box looks like (5 pictures below) On the "Front Runners" boxes are simliar to the original boxes but now have the words "Front Runners" are on the lower right corner.

Also on both of the New "Front Runners" boxes...the frequency chips are NOT in the car chassis and controller but are located near the controller in the box when shipped.

MORE NEW Hobby Grade boxes!!! This is a 3rd Edition Jimmie Johnson # 48 "Hobby Grade" Rc car box looks like (5 pictures below) On the "Front Runners" boxes are different from the original boxes but now have the words "Front Runners" are on the lower right corner. Also the top of the box will be slightly different. "Race up to 6 cars at a time" vs "Race up to 6 drivers at a time".

MORE NEW Hobby Grade boxes!!!
4th Generation Version !!!
November, 24th 2007
I purchased the new paint scheme of Jimmie Johnson Hobby Grade Nascar Rc car. Purchased at Lowes Home Improvement. Here below shows the new box. The new paint scheme car itself with the First Edition Hobby Grade also shown below.

Other than the obvious printed box and body paint scheme changes theres alot to view of the New JJ car.

The new paint scheme Hobby Grade car on the top.
First Edition Hobby Grade on the bottom.

Note the rear decklids - fenders on the new car. SHORTER from the pins to the spoiler. Rear of the body has been shortened and fits well inside of the chassis lip. Apparently to save on body shell damage. Spoiler is a tic higher also. Several sponsor changes. NEW paint looks great. Gas "cap" on the First Edition and none on the newer body style. The gas filler area on the New JJ car is sunken in like the real race car.

Again...

First Edition Hobby Grade in the back.

Note the front window and rear window areas on the new car. SHORTER - taller windows on the First Edition. Longer more sloped windows on the new car. Note the lack of the black band at the bottom of the front windsheild. Rear window is not as rounded at the bottom either as it was on the First Edition HG car. Rear Side windows are longer as well. Different "window net" Another view of the spoiler showing it is a tic higher. Several sponsor changes. NEW paint looks great. Gas "cap" on the First Edition and none on the newer body style. The gas filler area on the New JJ car is sunken in like the real race car.

Another view of the rear side windows that are longer. Slight difference in moldings in the centers of the windows too. Different "window net"

First Edition JJ Hobby Grade on the right.

Okay.. is this a mold mistake? or did someone forget to add the rest of the black rear window reinforcing on the new body style?. Not to mention, the whole rear of the car is now all "filled in" New car also has a "bulbing out" between the taillights. SLIGHTLY resembles the rear of the Toyota Team-up Michael Waltrip car body for the Napa Car. Note the rear taillights are different sizes and thicker, taller spoiler. Narrower roof on the new body style?

First Edition Hobby Grade on the left.
New car also has a "bulbing up" between the hoodpins. Looks as if it doesnt fit right. Some changes to front nose too. Note the graphics come forward more on the new car. Bigger  black "grille" not indented either. Again, note the longer more sloped winsheild versus the First Edition car. Narrower roof on the new body style?

The back panels, "Hobby Grade" versions will completely different also "First Edition Base Versons" will show the Foam Padded Chassis as where the "Second Edition Base Versions." will be a full plastic chassis, similar to the "Hobby Grade" chassis, but with their own unique differences.

Hobby Grade, First Edition Base version, Second Edition Base Version Chassis comparisions
I have here, left to right, the Hobby Grade Chassis, First Edition Base version (foam padded chassis). The Second Edition Base version chassis will be a full plastic chassis, similar to the "Hobby Grade" chassis, but with their own unique differences.

I have here, left to right, the Hobby Grade Chassis, First Edition Base version (foam padded chassis). The Second Edition Base version chassis will be a full plastic chassis, (not shown) similar to the "Hobby Grade" chassis, but with a manual alignment arrow between the front wheels just like the F.E.B.v chassis.

Do you notice the differences now?

"Hobby Grade" Features are :

Digital proportional steering (variable steering), which means you can turn the transmitter wheel slightly and the car turns a little. Turn the transmitter wheel alot and the car turns alot. Variable speed control this means you pull back on the trigger a little the car moves a little, pull back on the trigger all the way and the car takes off! This also works for reverse gear as well.

Multiple Interchangeable Frequencies
Each "Hobby Grade" Rc car has their own dedicated frequency. ALL 6 cars, 1 of EACH DIFFERENT DRIVER the series of cars you can race at the same time. WOW ! Online retailers
Amazon.com, (the ONLY legal online retailer of Hobby Grades at the time of this posting but mistakes are being made by warehouse employees that dont know what they are doing) and other online locations Costco.com, Nascar.com QVC.com (they sell ONLY Base versions!!! Except #8 Dale Jr. "Budweiser Racing" Rc car which ONLY came out in Hobby Grade), they have to be huge production runs. Most likey in the tens of thousands and still going strong.
Not all at once mind you but I know for a fact that the other 6 Hobby Grades listed here below...
# 3 Dale Earnhardt Sr. GM Goodwrench DEI
# 8 Dale Jr. "Budweiser Racing" version DEI
# 8 Dale Jr. "DEI Wheat Crest" version DEI
# 20 Tony Stewart "Home Depot" JGR
# 24 Jeff Gordon "Dupont Racing" HMS
# 48 Jimmie Johnson "Lowes Home Improvement" HMS

...are still being produced at the time of this posting.

The original Base versions of the same drivers above are no longer being produced so as to make way for the more popular "Hobby Grade" 6th scale line of Rc cars. THEY WILL BE TOUGHER TO FIND in the future.!!

Terminology:

First Edition Base Versions are (foam padded chassis, no front or rear plastic bumper lip)

Second Edition Base Versions are (full plastic chassis, with a front and rear plastic bumper lip)
